When the plumbing system in your home starts to deteriorate, there will be different warning signs that start appearing in your home. If you have noticed any of the following, it is time to replace your pipes. The longer you take to re-pipe, the more damage is caused to your home and property, which means the more money you end up spending.
Corroding and leaking pipes
As pipes near the end of their lifespan, they start to corrode. This manifests as a blue-green discoloration, as well as brownish patches, on the outside of the pipe. Before long, the corroding pipes start to leak and mold starts to grow on your walls. Once you see evidence of pipe corrosion, contact a plumber and have them inspect your pipes.
Rusty and colored water
If your fixtures start to discharge rust-colored water that smells terribly, something is wrong with your water supply system. Mineral build up is the most common cause for discolored water. If there is mineral build up in your pipes then it is time for a repipe.
Low water pressure
Another sign that it is time to change your pipes is low water pressure. If your fixtures do not run as well as they used or the pressure decreases after, there may be rust or mineral deposits clogging the pipes. The only solution here is to replace the affected pipes.
If you notice all of the above at the same time, your home surely needs to be repiped. Before making a definitive decision, however, seek the opinion of a professional.
